In the first six months of 2005, as well as in 2004, Italy has been the second most important trading partner of Egypt.
In particular Italy is the third supplier and the first market of destination for the Egyptian goods.
In the fiscal year 2004-2005 the level of international investment to Egypt reached approximately 1 billion US dollars. The main European investors are, according to the latest European statistics, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.
United State and the Gulf countries are relevant investors as well.
Italy is massively present in Egypt through the ENI Group companies, in the most important projects related to oil and gas. The investment of ITALCEMENTI Group in 2005, through the acquisition of an important quota of the capital of local cement manufacturers, is considered among the most important foreign investments in Egypt.
Beside that there is the important presence of Italian Groups, such as PIRELLI, ANSALDO, IVECO, PIAGGIO, TECHINT and others.
Italy in the last year became the country with the most important number of visitors to Egypt (approx. one million).
Many Italian companies are providing services in this field and are active in investing in hotels and recreation infrastructures for the last ten years.
Other important sectors for Italian investments are: metal working, leather, agriculture, textile, pharmaceutical and woodworking industry.
