TOYS TURN “GREEN” AT TURIN’S MEC

Yes, they are gadgets, but they’re “green”. These aeroplanes, windmills and racing cars are all powered by solar energy. These toys are designed, produced and commercialised by Mec Srl, an engineering company based in Turin that provides assistance to companies in several areas. Among the services they offer, MeC also provides comprehensive environmental consultation, offering complete “turnkey” solutions and strategic advice to identify the best solutions or technical partners for private and public bodies. They also produce solar gadgets for companies that want to create corporate gadgets that relate to environmental issues. The objects are made from certified wood and reused silicon photovoltaic panels, cut into smaller pieces. They are operated by a small electric motor that is powered by a small solar panel provided in the kit. The concern for the environment can also be seen in the packaging, which is made exclusively from recycled paper. The idea came about after years of success in schools, as the company in fact also takes an active part in environmental education in schools with positive feedback from students, teachers, head teachers and local government. So, in 2009 the idea was born to develop, produce and commercialise solar gadgets, aiming towards a sustainable future and the protection of the environment. Using the skills gained from the environmental education field and with the help of a team of technicians with backgrounds in the biggest energy and environmental based innovative companies, MeC offers its services as a technical partner to solve problems of an environmental nature, with innovative and technically advanced solutions. MeC started from an idea by Carlo and Massimo Bardissone in January 2006. The company, which recorded a turnover of 500 thousand euros last year, is formed of a team of young engineers, all of whom graduated at the Polytechnic University of Turin, guided by a professional expert with over 30 years of planning experience across numerous sectors, plus 12 years as an expert cost analyst. They work in various sectors, all characterised by an interest in the environment and sustainability. MeC’s core business is technical support, analysis and coordination in industrial, planning and management fields. The company support includes every aspect of technical management, research and development of solutions to solve project issues, cost analysis of all the project elements, determining the technological cycle and labour times, and feasibility studies into aspects of planning and design.
