Alenia Aeronautica is the Italian leader in aeronautics and a major European player in the aerospace industry, with full system integration capabilities.

It designs and builds high-performance combat aircraft, military and commercial transport aircraft and advanced airliner structures, and offers global customer service.

The company has strong and established relationships with the key aerospace players in Europe and the United States, and participates in most of the global leading programs.

In the combat aircraft sector Alenia Aeronautica holds a 21% share in the European program for the Eurofighter Typhoon air superiority aircraft. As prime contractor and together with Aermacchi and Embraer, it produced the AMX tactical support and reconnaissance aircraft adopted by the Italian and Brazilian Air Forces. Alenia also produced the Tornado, the European twin-jet combat aircraft with variable geometry wing.
In the military transport aircraft field, Alenia Aeronautica and Lockheed Martin developped the new C-27J military transport aircraft. The C-27 combines the well-known reliability of the G222 with the modern avionics and the engines of the C-130J.
In the regional aircraft the activities include the production of the ATR turbo-prop aircraft family developed with EADS. The success of the ATR program has been confirmed by over than 650 aircraft already ordered world-wide. Alenia Aeronautica also develops special versions of the ATR 42/72 commuter family: the ATR 42 MP Surveyor has been developed to accomplish a wide range of maritime patrol missions.
In the aerostructures sector the company has long been co-operating with the world's major aeronautical industries manufacturing structural parts for some of today's best-known commercial aircraft like B767, B777, B717, B757, MD80/90, MD11 , A321, A300/310, A330/A340, A380, Falcon 900 EX and 2000. The new Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner will both use Alenia Aeronautica aerostructures.
In the modification and maintenance field Alenia Aeronautica has a leading position through Aeronavali.
