CAP: SIMPLICITY AND INNOVATION

Rome - (Adnkronos Multimedia) - At first nobody could believe it, and nobody wanted to invest resources and capital in such a bizarre idea. Everyone said it was a useless invention. Nevertheless, the "CaP" (the Italian acronym for "Pressure Connector"), a tiny black plastic coupling designed to solve all connection problems for coaxial cables in high-frequency applications, turned out to be more successful than many other apparently extraordinary patents. So much so, that in 2001, it won two international prizes at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronic Show: the Innovation CES and the Tech TV Best of CES, the first awarded by the organising body, the second by a jury of international experts.
This small yet revolutionary object is the result of the creativity and inventiveness of an Italian engineer, Giovanni Pugliese, 47, from Chieti in Abruzzo, founder of Telecom & Security. In 1993 he began studying a product which could solve high-frequency connection problems, in homes and working environments. In 1997 the first series of CaP products came out, and was followed by the launch in the US, where the small and ingenious device met with unexpected success. Practically indestructible, the CaP has been subjected to all kinds of technical tests, and has even endured the extremely rough treatment required by the American "military standards". Its intensive development has led to the birth of a whole CaP System, an innovative integrated system of wiring products for the houses of the future, notable for their simple installation and high quality technical performance.
The product was launched in 1998, on the occasion of events such as INTEL and SATEXPO, and was the springboard for T&S's expansion into Europe. This would culminate in its participation as the only central-southern European partner in a continent-wide project aimed at creating an innovative plastic metallisation process which did not involve the use of chromic acid, thus leading to a drastic reduction in production costs. In 1999, Telecom & Security began to make a name for itself in Europe, selling the CaP to foreign radio and television manufacturers, in particular in Germany, France and England. Then came the move onto the world stage, with the participation in CES in Las Vegas.
The choice of good connections is fundamental, because they represent the final link in the transmission chain of the radio-television signal. A poor-quality connection may introduce loss of quality, making the installation of complex and costly equipment a waste of time. But CaP's success is not only down to its quality. There are at least three other vital ingredients. Above all, simplicity of use, together with low cost. The CaP, which is protected by an international patent, allows coaxial cables of different sizes to be connected more quickly than with any metallic connector, and gives technically superior results. Moreover, the reduction in connection times leads to significantly lower installation costs. Secondly, versatility. Telecom & Security has developed a series of highly simplified connection systems, adaptable to the most widely used modular systems, as well as rapid connection systems for all television set-ups. Thirdly, duration over time. Unlike the normal devices available on the market, with a frequency band limited to 2050 - 2150 MHz, the Telecom & Security sockets and accessories are designed to support a frequency band extending from 5 to 2400 MHz, thus anticipating the inevitable telecommunications developments over the next few years, including cable television and interconnection with other high-frequency devices, from video mobile phones to the various image transmission systems which will derive from the development of MPEG.
