Andrea Riello, a manager building the future

Rome - (Adnkronos Multimedia) - Forty years spent transforming a small production facility into a major industrial group in the machine tools sector. This sums up the business adventure of Riello Sistemi spa and, consequently of the Riello family, and the group's founder, Pilade Riello, together with his son Andrea, who is today at the helm of one of the Italian firms which has been most successful also on an international level.
Andrea Riello, Venetian with two daughters, was born in 1962 and grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. He has the perfect CV for a manager whose task is to build a company's future. He graduated at the age of 23 in Business and Economics at the Ca' Foscari University in Venice, but did not join the family firm straight away. Instead he went abroad to gain experience, first to Brussels, and then to London, where he began to work, and where he also obtained a diploma in Management Studies at the Polytechnic of Central London. In 1989 he came back to Italy and joined Riello Macchine, now Riello Sistemi spa, where in 1991 he became Managing Director and General Manager, and in 2001 Chairman. In 1992, Andrea Riello also began to take an active role in the sector's trade association, and became a member of the Steering Committee of Ucimu - Sistemi per produrre. He subsequently became its vice-chairman in 1994, and chairman in June 2000. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of Confindustria (the Italian Manufacturers' Association), where he represents the national Federations in the sector.
The story of Riello Sistemi is inextricably linked to the life of the man at its helm, starting with its age, which is almost identical to his: Andrea Riello was born in 1962 and the company was founded by his father the year after. 1963 also saw the birth of Riello Macchine Utensili, based in Minerbe, in the province of Verona. Their first factory shed built systems for the machining of cast iron, aluminium, steel and brass, produced for Riello Bruciatori, which is Italy's leading company in the sector of heating systems. For almost thirty years Riello Sistemi grew in the shadow of its larger sister company, Riello Macchine Utensili, expanding in markets which were different to that represented by the supply of machines for the parent company. The turning point came in 1995, under the leadership of Andrea, with the takeover of Comas Srl, in Montecchio Vicentino, which became Riello Macchine Flessibili, today amalgamated with Riello Sistemi spa. Two years later saw the takeover of Mandelli Industrie spa, which became Mandelli Sistemi spa, and in 2001 of Burkhardt+Weber Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH, now Burkhardt+Weber Fertigungssyteme GmbH. Lastly, in 2002, work was finished on the head offices of Riello Shanghai Production Systems Co., Ltd., which became operational the following year.
In less than ten years, Andrea Riello has thus transformed the company into an international leader with a capillary presence the world over, by combining investments, takeovers and technological innovation, and has become one of the leading players in an extremely difficult and strategic sector.
Today, the group boasts four brands, employs around 500 people and has a turnover of 100 million euros.
