Main Activity
Bioflag is a genomics-based discovery company focused on the identification and development of novel biomarkers through the application of bioinformatics, biology, chemistry, and medicine. Founded in November 2004, Bioflag has the primary location within the Scientific and Technological Park of Sardinia (Polaris) - Cagliari, Italy. Its initial activity is based on the research activity of the founder scientists in the field of gene expression, molecular oncology and bioinformatics.The outcome of this unique competence is the development of integrated biological experiment-based, and in silico-based technology platforms that permits the identification, selection, prioritization and validation of novel targets for biopharmaceutical companies.
The company's goal is to become a molecular, diagnostic, discovery, and development company, focused on tests for early disease detection, addressing major unmet medical needs. The key elements of the company's strategy include:
-generate funding through partnerships;
-continue to invent and exploit proprietary technologies and products;
-pursue its own internal discovery and development efforts;
-generate a substantial, proprietary intellectual property portfolio;
-acquire complementary products and technologies.
Company Strengths
R&D CAPACITY: Bioflag intends to utilize a unique combination of expertise to shift from an observational to an innovative disovery process, which combines stringent and comprehensive bioinformatic prediction wuth systematic experimental confirmation and prompt development. Biofalg's platform is ideally suited to the search for new protein markers. Once candidate, sequences are selected and internally validated, the pipeline involves a direct production of the corrisponding proteins. These are then used for the production of antibodies and immunoassays panels, which allow a direct assessment of their distribution/level both in cancer tissue and body fluid samples of healty controls and affected patients. If these antiges/antibodies result to be consistently detected, and thus represent good candidates for being associated with the disease phenotype, will be prioritized for further validation and development.
