FLUID POWER: THE ITALIAN MARKET MOVES INTO INDIA

The Italian "fluid power" sector, comprising manufacturers and operators in the sectors of oleohydraulics, tyres, transmission components and gear parts, is looking for new opportunities in India. ICE, (the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade), has decided to repeat the experience of 2007 by organizing a joint participation in the second MDA - Motion Drive Automation - Trade Fair. The objective of the Institute is to aid the sector in the process of internationalization and to increase knowledge of Italian technology amongst Indian operators. At the same time ICE aims to promote the gradual development of industrial and commercial collaborative relationships between Italian and Indian companies.
The event will take place in Bangalore in the new Bangalore International Exhibition Center complex from December 10th-13th, 2008. The location is strategic: The Bangalore region is amongst the most industrialized in India and the country's main mechanical, iron and steel industries, as well as many textile factories and chemical plants are concentrated in this area. This Asian nation, with its constantly expanding market for imported mechanical products and solutions offers foreign investors the chance to satisfy the pressing need of local industries to update their production.
The Indian transmission and power control sectors, in particular, have grown by 20% in the last few years. Strong domestic demand has not yet led to the consolidation of a local industrial base, and the importation of parts and technology for "motion drive automation" still accounts for more than 50% of total demand. Machine tools, agricultural machinery, means of transport, textile machines, packaging machines, machines for the food industry: these are only some of the fields to use the Italian brand of oleohydraulics and pneumatics. And hopefully export quotas will be further increased thanks to relationships established and exchanges made in the course of the MDA Trade Fair.
The desire to increase Italy's importance in supplying the Indian market in particular and world markets in general with oleohydraulic and pneumatic solutions (electric coils, industrial washers, hydraulic pipes, pneumatic tubes, valves, speed reducers, as well as electric and hydraulic motors) is consistent with the sector's capacity to make an impression on the international scene. Confirmation can be found in last year's figures: in 2007 (according to the latest data supplied by the sector's association, Assofluid, the Italian oleohydraulic sector showed a sharp increase in export volume (+21.1%). With regard to orders in 2007, foreign demand showed a double-digit increase (+27.3%). The pneumatic sector is also healthy, even if the percentage of growth was lower: exports for 2007 registered an 11.1% increase. With regard to orders, foreign demand has grown by 7% in the past year.
