RENEWABLES AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY THE BEST OF "MADE IN ITALY" TECHNOLOGY IN ABU DHABI
Renewable energy, energy efficiency, environmental technologies, and systems for managing water resources ‚Äď these are the core themes of the "World Future Energy Summit 2014" , to be held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) from the 20th to the 22nd January, 2014, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The Italian Trade Agency ("ICE") will be attending with an institutional presence at the fair to promote innovative Italian technologies in the relevant sectors, as well as holding a technical seminar aimed at Italian businesses and others active in the relevant fields related the Summit.
The "World Future Energy Summit" (WFES) is now in its 7th year and has become the most important event dedicated to the renewable energy sector, energy efficiency and clean technology in the Middle East. The event has grown hugely in importance over the years as the United Arab Emirates represent a key gateway to the Gulf markets ‚Äď currently considered one of the most important globally for environmental and energy technologies. Organised by Reed Exhibitions and supported by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Masdar, part of the Mubadala Development Company PJSC, the Summit has become an unmissable annual appointment for political, economic and financial representatives, not to mention academics in the field from around the world. The Summit is held alongside the International Water Summit, dedicated to water technologies and now in its second year, and EcoWaste ‚Äď a brand new event aimed at the waste management sector.
The technical seminar organised by the Italian Trade Agency offers a unique opportunity for participants, who will have the opportunity to present themselves and network with qualified attendees, including businesses and local organisations in the field. Our goal is to promote collaborations and partnerships in tune with the demand for innovative technologies and solutions in the local market. Crucially, attendees will see investment plans from local authorities. For visitors, this will be an unmissable opportunity to witness Italian excellence from a technological and innovation perspective in the renewables and energy efficiency sectors. The 2013 event saw over 600 exhibitors from 40 countries on a site with a total of 40 000 sq. metres. Visitors also grew, to nearly 30 000. National representatives were also numerous and included officials from China, Germany, Turkey, France, India and Italy.
The Abu Dhabi government has launched an extensive plan for developing renewable energy, with the goal of fulfilling 7% of the country's demand by 2020: this amounts to approximately 1500 MW of clean energy, mostly to be used in the Masdar City project (managed by the Masdar company, who are running the WFES): the Zero Emissions City. Also of note is the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, valued at USD $3.26 bn., which is expected to generate 1000 MW of solar energy by 2030. The Emirates also represent one of the largest world markets for desalination technologies, with ambitious investment goals in the water supply network estimated to be worth around USD $30-35 billion over the 2011‚Äď2015 period alone.
