INTEL TURNS THE LIGHT ON ELECTRONICS AND SECURITY

INTEL TURNS THE LIGHT ON ELECTRONICS AND SECURITY Rome (Ign) - Milan is the European capital of light. From 6 to 10 February the regional capital of Lombardy will host Intel Livinluce (http://www.fieramilano
tech.it/?id=MjQzLTQ4MC00NTUta
XRh
), the event that brings together home & building automation and the technology of electronics and security. This is a special edition, because it marks the 30th anniversary of its birth, and for the occasion the organisers have decided to make a particular effort: Intel LivinLuce has been actively promoted throughout the whole supply chain of users and will cover all the fields with the best development potential, including design-furnishing, modular systems, lighting technology, lighting for urban and green areas and roads. The show is held in one of the largest trade fair centres in the world, the Fiera di Milano where the last edition welcomed almost 1500 professionals (38% of whom were from abroad) and 86,000 visitors. These are figures the organisers are confident will be repeated also this year, seeing that the event has been promoted all over the world and especially Europe (Eastern Europe in particular), North America, Mercosur, India, the Maghreb and the Middle East. For this intense international activity, the organiser Fiera Milano Tech can also count on the foreign capillary network of Fiera Milano, with 43 offices in over 67 countries, and on the trade missions of staff from the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade.

This, then, is a golden opportunity to increase business in a continuously developing sector. According to figures published by Anie (www.anie.it), the National Federation of Electrotechnical and Electronic Businesses, affiliated to Confindustria (the Italian Manufacturers' Association), industrial production in the sector in October 2006 saw a growth trend (i.e. compared to the corresponding month in 2005) of 6.4%. The trend situation, which shows the variation on the previous month, shows higher growth of 8.6%. Pride of place in the manufacturing field goes to electrotechnics and electronics, which showed the most significant growth. In the first ten months of 2006, industrial production grew on an annual basis by 2.2% (respectively, + 0.4% for Electrotechnics and + 3.7% for Electronics), thanks above all to excellent results in electrotechnics and instrumental and intermediate electronics (+4.9% instrumental goods and +3.3% intermediate goods in the first ten months of 2006).

The forecasts for the end of 2006 are thus positive: after five years of an uninterrupted downwards trend, turnover will be up by 1.8%. This is deserved recognition for a sector that remains one of the most strategic and advanced in the panorama of Italian industry, and achieves a turnover of around €56bn, of which 24bn on foreign markets, with 4.6% of turnover invested in research and development. For this reason, electronics and electrotechnics represent the second most important sector in terms of size and importance within the Italian Manufacturers' Association, also thanks to the vast field of integrated technologies produced: from apparatus, cables and energy infrastructures, to transport systems, electro-medical apparatus, lighting technology, electronic components, automation and ICT.
