ITALY A PARTNER COUNTRY AT WIN 2007 IN ISTANBUL

Rome (Ign) - A sector little known by most, but which represents the backbone of the manufacturing sector. We are talking about hydraulics and pneumatics, whose leading names are preparing to travel to Istanbul on the occasion of the second part of WIN 2007 (www.win-fair. com/en/), the International fair dedicated to the world of industry. The show, which is scheduled for 8-11 March, will be hosted by the prestigious Convention and Congress Center and aims at surpassing the goals achieved last year: 882 exhibitors from 166 foreign countries and almost 30,000 professional visitors.
WIN is thus a fundamental event in the sector, which in Italy represents one of the silent cornerstones of the economy. It is for this reason that Italy will be a partner of the fair, seeing that it is one of the main suppliers of machinery to Turkey, and it is also why the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade is organising a collective delegation of Italian businesses. The main aim is to increase awareness of Italian technologies in the sector of hydraulics and pneumatics by the Turkish market, and to encourage possible bilateral industrial or commercial cooperation between the two countries.
The occasion can be exploited to the full, seeing that the sector is backed up with figures from 2005, which recorded significant growth. According to the sector trade association, Assofluid (www.assofluid.it), in fact, the Italian fluid power market numbers includes 1600 companies, over 23,000 jobs and turnover of around €3.5bn. These figures make Italy the second largest operator in Europe and one of the most important in the world for the sector. As far as regards hydraulics, meanwhile, there are over 1000 Italian firms and almost 17,000 jobs working to make Italian products competitive on the global market. This is a process which begins with design and ends with sale, but which has a particular feature: in every part of the process, the technical component is extremely important, and this is where Italy excels, above all due to constant attention to research. This is all translated into a turnover which also in 2005 exceeded €2.5bn. Production value alone grew by 9.36% on 2004.
The sector of pneumatics, smaller than that of hydraulics in terms of number of firms (600) and jobs (over 6000) also generates a turnover worthy of respect, which at the end of 2005 reached levels of €1bn. These are all positive data, which demonstrate among other things that domestic pneumatic production rose by 3.5% on the previous year. And also the initial figures for 2006 show a positive trend which shows no signs of slowing: in the first quarter alone there was recorded an increase of 10% in orders, which promises well for the future, above all in the light of internationalisation strategies. And in this perspective, the event in Istanbul represents a key factor: a perfect showcase for the Italy system, which can propose its own innovative products, solutions and services, in a globalised context which on one hand is a target for sales, on the other for possible partnerships.
