ISC EXPO: ITALIAN SECURITY HEADS FOR THE STATES

Rome (Ign) -A sector in continuous growth, which sees continuous technological development and which must respond to the expectations of a market which is now a global and extremely selective. This is the vast sector of devices and systems aimed at ensuring security for places, things and persons, to which a huge exhibition show is dedicated every year in the United States, Isc-Expo (www.iscwest.com). This year it will be held in Los Angeles between 28 and 30 March, in the impressive Sands Expo and Convention Center. The last edition of Isc Expo saw the presence of 23,000 professional visitors and over 850 exhibitors, arranged over an exhibition space of around 27,000 square metres. The expectations for the 2007 edition are to surpass these figures, and it is with this spirit, that of occupying in the best possible way one of the most important showcases in the sector in the world, that the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE) will set up an information point, allowing participating Italian companies to meet local professionals and show off the best of Italian products in the sector.
The security market is in growth, and can count on an increasing number of export markets. In Europe in 2005, it accounted for a turnover of €46bn. In Italy, the sector as a whole - which is highly segmented - accounts for business worth €5.5bn, with forecasts of 5.5% growth, and a total of around 60,000 jobs. The broken down data show that the sector of apparatus and electronic devices (including products for automated building control) has reached levels of €438m in turnover, while fire prevention and antitheft systems account for €400m. The macro-area of defence from intruders (remote controlled cameras, access control, presence detection devices) accounts for almost €1bn in turnover, while safes generate business of €70m. The trend is constantly positive and also involves new product lines, such as those for the management of cash in retail stores and robotised deposits in large hotels, or systems for maximum security sites and installations, crucial in the detection of explosives and drugs. These are markets which in the US are not simply niches but real opportunities, so much so as to make it one of the most competitive markets in the world, towards which also Italy looks with growing interest.
Moreover, the Italian production system in the sector of security is today an extremely solid reality, which can count on highly respected technological know-how, making it possible to offer international markets constantly updated and technologically innovative systems. A case in point is the new alarm system based on a microwave barrier with digital signal analysis, with a range of up to 200m. The system also provides for a microprocessor to analyse the signals received (signals which in turn exploit innovative technologies), in order to reduce the margin of error and consequently false alarms to a minimum. The system is able to recognise a signal and understand if it is due to human intrusion, by studying its behavioural model related to the progress of the signal step by step, analysed also by exploiting data obtained from a complete analysis of the environment.
This is a technology which not only follows market demands, but in some way anticipates them, offering products which in addition to standard performance guarantee further advantages to distinguish products from the competition. Markets as advanced as that of the United States are in fact always interested in new developments, and reward those companies that are prepared to take risks by investing in innovation.
