GEMINI: BUTTONS, ZIPS AND BUCKLES ALL FOR DESIGNER LABELS
It is called Gemini (acronym for Genuine Made in Italy) and will soon be attracting much attention with its new network in Tuscany.
Forming the network will be three companies able to cover every aspect of the production of metal fashion accessories, like buttons, zips, buckles and badges.
This is a way to best meet the needs of certain important fashion labels in the province of Florence, where there is one of the most important districts of luxury leather goods and high fashion, by providing finished products of undisputed quality.
Last April, the three businesses (the Mengoni Company which has produced metal fashion accessories for 25 years, Nassini, a 3D company specialised in brushing, and GM3, which handles “galvanic finishing” and is the “daughter” of the other two) decided to “form a network” by joining forces to face the financial crisis together; and although it is too soon to draw any definitive conclusions, Massimiliano Andreani, a partner of both Mengoni and Nassini, believes the decision is proving to be a winning one.
Mr Andreani said: “It was the market that encouraged us do this. The first two companies had been working together for some time and this choice has now increased our visibility and met with the satisfaction of our customers, who greatly appreciate our efforts and the possibility of receiving finished products.”
The partner of Mengoni and Nassini explained: “The most difficult thing at the moment is knowing how to handle the new company, but the other two companies are already enjoying greater financial rewards, a sign that we are probably heading in the right direction.” He added: “We are not currently focusing so much on the foreign markets, because we are benefitting so much from our proximity to the Tuscan hub of high fashion, where there are many of the top brands. Basically, it is now the cusomers coming to us rather than us trying to find them, as was the case at the start: now, however, word of mouth works just fine.”
“Our products are entirely made in Italy and their quality is instantly recognisable. Also, I cannot emphasise enough the importance we place on work ethics and standards of quality,” remarked Mr Andreani, stressing that he fears more than just the competition of Chinese companies setting up in the area and offering lower than market prices.
He concluded: “We should all understand that it is impossible to lower industrial costs like this without breaking the rules, and that we should avoid fighting amongst ourselves.”
