THE BEST MILK IN THE WORLD IS MADE IN ITALY

Rome (Ign) -It has been man's true wealth since antiquity, and still today it represents a valuable resource for all companies who work with it, whether directly or indirectly. We are talking about milk, one of the most important products of the Italian agricultural and food industry. The system of Italian milk manufacturing companies is highly competitive on international markets: above all, the outstanding quality together with the excellent organisation of the manufacturing system. The high level of coordination and integration between livestock farming and the manufacturing processes (fodder industry) and the subsequent phase (dairy industry) represent a plus for the sector. This is in particular due to the strong links in economic and social terms between dairy farming and the territory in which it operates. The presence of many large breeders, with a technical and economic edge that allows them to operate in an increasingly competitive environment, means that the Italian system is diversified and capable of satisfying the demands of a globalised market as well as more specific and organic ones. The role of milk production for Italian cheeses exported throughout the world is also very important (DOP, IGP and typical regional products).
A practical example of this organisation is Cooperlat Gruppo Fattorie Italia, that includes 8 different brands dedicated to dairy-cheese products. The cooperative, which recently presented new product lines at the Sigep international fair in Rimini, is also the emblem of another important characteristic of the Italian milk industry, namely, advanced know-how in breeding, management, technology and genetics. The line of vegetable creams, Hoplà , a European leader in the sector, is an example of this and is often utilised also by the large food industries and by large bakeries. Hoplà exports to over 40 countries throughout the world and has excellent sales figures. In 2006, in fact, its products registered an increase, making this Italian GMO-free vegetable fat, low-cholesterol (and in some cases cholesterol-free) product one of the undisputed leaders in the sector. Italy is certainly one of the most important competitors in the milk sector, thanks to the outstanding organisation of every sector of the production phase. It is precisely this unity in cooperatives that has allowed resources to be maximised and made the Italian system highly competitive on the international marketplace. In milk production, research also plays a very important role which allows new market segments to be penetrated. This is particularly the case for high digestibility milk, or fat-free milk, or milk containing special proteins added during the processing phase: products that continue to broaden the offer for specialised markets which are also very profitable.
