Main Activity
Bio-Ker s.r.l. is a privately owned pharmaceutical company established in 2003. Bio-Ker is involved in the development of recombinant therapeutic proteins, biopharmaceutical drug delicery, DNA vaccines and recombinant enzymes for biotransformation reactions. The company has a staff of about 30 scientists with expertise in molecular biology, fermentation, protein and DNA purification and analysis, pharmaceutical technology, preclinical and clinical development of biopharmaceuticals.
Company Strengths
HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS: Production of recombinant therapeutic proteins in bacteria (E. Coli) by proprietary technologies based on the expression of fusion proteins (as soluble proteins or insoluble inclusion bodies) followed by selective enzymatic cleavage to obtain the native proteins;
production of recombinant proteins in genetically modified mammalian cells (CHO) to obtain human-like glycoproteins; innovative delivery of biopharmaceuticals:
a) controlled release formulations
b) protein conjugation in order to increase plasma half-life (e. g. pegylation and glycosylation;
genetic vaccination:
a) preparation and characterization of DNA plasmids with high efficiency for tumor vaccination.
R&D CAPACITY: recombinant human growth hormone: production at pilot scale in E. coli; clinical phase I study completed; studies of controlled release formulations are in progress; recombinant interferon-alpha-2b and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) in E. Coli: production at macrolab scale. Controlled release formulations of G-CSF are in development such as a new long lasting mono-PEGylated; recombinant erytropoietin and interferonbeta in CHO cells: lab scale preparation; innovative protein delivery system are under development using different technologies; DNA vaccines based on multigenic DNA plasmids are under development. Impressive results have been obtained in terms of antibody formation, cytotoxic response and tumor regression.
