Main Activity
NANOVECTOR is R&D consultancy based company, having specific skill and expertise in Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLNs) and Micro-emulsions, which have been studied as colloidal carriers for drug delivery. SLNs are obtained by warm microemulsions by proprietary method. The company is equipped with all equipment required to develop on bench scale the SLN and micro-emulsion preparations, to characterise them for size, poly-dispersity index, zeta potential, and for chemical analyses. NV has in its facilities a working clean-room (class A) for study of pharmaceutical process development in sterile condition: cGMP scale-up for production of SLNs is in progress. Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLNs) are obtained from warm oil in water (O/W) and water in oil in water (W/O/W) micro-emulsions, as by proprietary methods. SLNs can be loaded with hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs. NANOVECTOR has also a great expertise in the field of micro-emulsions prepared at room temperature. Company's core business is to apply and commercialise SLN technology for drug delivery in Pharmaceuticals.
Microemulsions and SLNs are constituted of bio-molecules, such as fatty acids, triglycerides, phospholipids. SLNs are solidified droplets of warm microemulsion and so they have a spherical shape with average diameter usually between 100 and 200 nanometers, depending on molecule to be loaded in: size distribution is very narrow. SLNs can also be prepared Stealth for IV adm., in order to avoid RES recognition, to prolong MRT and to better reach brain district.
Main results obtained by invitro and invivo tests on SLNs are following:
- SLNs can be administered, after testing in animal model, by intravenous, oral/duodenal, ocular and transdermal route.
- SLN are a slow release system: increasing of Area Under the Curve (AUC) and the Mean Residence Time (MRT) have been shown, comparing with reference market product.
- After administration by duodenal/oral route, SLNs are targeted to Lymph: relevant pharmacokinetic studies showed higher peak plasma concentrations (increasing AUC and MRT) after oral/duodenal SLNs administration vs the commercial forms of the same drug (solution) administered by Intravenous route.
- SLNs proved after in vivo tests to be able to overcome Physiological barriers (blood brain barrier (IV adm), blood retina barrier (topical, eye drops, adm))
- SLN are up-taken within few minutes in neoplastic and not neoplastic cell lines: invitro activity of anticancer drugs have been shown to be greatly enhanced when formulated in SLN comparing with market drug formulation
