A TILE THAT IS BOTH VERY OLD AND NEW UNICOPPO EXTRA FROM THE KILNS OF POSSAGNO
A tile with a double curve and the precise similarities of two overlapping pantiles, imitating to perfection not only its aesthetic appearance but also its high performance. This is the main feature of Unicoppo Extra, the patent from the kilns of Industrie Cotto Possagno, manufactured using the purest of clays from the local area in factories employing state-of-the-art technology and where the utmost care and attention goes into the quality, biocompatability and durability of its products.
Unicoppo Extra was first manufactured in Possagno, a small municipality in the Province of Treviso (also the birthplace of the sculptor Antonio Canova), which has dedicated itself, since time immemorial, to the manufacture of bricks and tiles. Founded in 1998, Industrie Cotto Possagno has its roots firmly planted in the fusion of the area’s major kilns. Although only a young business, the company brings with it the expertise acquired from some of the oldest firms in the sector, making its mark as a business through the pursuit of quality and an all-round service with the implementation of new technologies and production processes for tiles and pantiles.
The company's new patent for a high-quality product derived precisely from this search and reveals the attention that has gone into the minutest of detail, even in its choice of clay mixtures. It undergoes quality control checks throughout the entire production process and the finished product is tested piece by piece and not by sample. In addition to the double curvature it also has a wave-like configuration of the channel that allows an improved circulation of air and guarantees optimum aeration. The tile is larger in size than the standard tiles and requires only 12 pieces for every square metre. Every piece is also heavier, 4.25kg instead of 3.7kg which allows a better variability in spacing, making the laying easier and improving its grip. Joints and overlaps have been thought out in the minutest detail, with raised areas that exploit the shape, contrasting the action of the wind and helping water to flow away. The water runs naturally along the large wide channel, collecting in the centre in a fast rivulet during light downpours and never spilling over, even in torrential rain.
The particular manufacturing process employed for the Unicoppo Extra Selezione ‚Äúhand-finished‚Äô type results in a surface coarseness that is reminiscent of the finger prints left behind by ancient systems of manufacture. This makes it perfect for use in restoration work, on historic buildings and wherever one is looking for a traditional touch. In addition to the old-style ‚Äėhand-finished‚Äô range, there are also three other technical/chromatic styles: the traditional range, with its classic reddish and light colours; the plus range in slate, for more modern stylish appearances and the weathered range, in different colours (France, Serene, Old Kiln, Ancient Sicily and Ancient Venetian). Given the distinctiveness of each individual piece‚Äôs manufacturing process, the company recommends taking the product from more than one pallet during the placing of the tiles in order to improve the chromatic appearance of the roof covering.
