Carpigiani, the art of ice-cream

Rome - (Adnkronos Multimedia) - What does it takes to make good ice cream? Three things: the ingredients, a machine, and skill. The ingredients are available everywhere but the machine and the ice-cream maker's skill are not. That is unless you turn to Carpigiani, the company from Anzola, near Bologna, which apart from being basically the only manufacturer in the world of machines for fresh ice-cream production, has for years been organising its "ice-cream university", running training courses for all its customers in Europe, America, Africa and Asia. This is an absolute first, which makes the company a benchmark for the world market.
The company was established in 1946, by the brothers Bruto and Poerio Carlo Carpigiani. Two years earlier, when the Second World War was still raging, they had, almost as a game, invented a small automatic machine for making ice cream, the so-called "Autogelatiera". It was an enormous success, and when the war was over, they decided to launch into industrial production. Thus began a path of continuous growth, which in a few years saw the company become the undisputed leader in machines for the production of traditional ice cream, known the world over as "ice-cream all'italiana". From the centre of Bologna, the company moved, in 1969, to Anzola dell'Emilia, where they built a large facility. These years also saw the Carpigiani brand begin to expand worldwide, with the first takeovers of companies in the sector and opening the first foreign branches.
"Technology for a sweeter world", has, for decades, been the company slogan. They have managed to keep their position of leadership thanks to continuous commitment to the design and the development of increasingly innovative machines, to constantly ensure top quality and follow the changing tastes of consumers. To guarantee this constant evolution, in 1989, Carpigiani became part of the Ali spa group, leader in the wider sector of the production of catering equipment and systems. This made it possible to have further technological and organisational growth, through the creation of the Carpigiani Group, which controls many other companies, in Italy and abroad, operating in the sector of supplies for ice-cream parlours. This made it possible to establish an impressive sales network, composed of direct commercial offices, or associated companies, subsidiaries and licence holders, which today means that Carpigiani can be present all over the world, even in the most remote places, confirming day by day a position of leadership in all the various sectors of fresh ice cream: "soft", yoghurt ice cream, milkshakes, granita, ice cream cakes and whipped cream. This success has also been confirmed by the recent agreement made with McDonald's, for a huge supply of machines for the production of fresh ice cream, for 14,000 McDonald's fast food restaurants all over the US. The deal is worth over âŹ10 million, to add to Carpigiani's yearly turnover of approximately 120 million.
And the art of ice cream making? Carpigiani also deals with handing this tradition down, through the training activity, aimed at all the continents, of the "Carpigiani Ice-cream University", a capillary training system which makes it possible above all to create groups of trainers for all the emerging markets, who in turn educate the final customers. Particular attention is naturally given to the most promising markets for the future. In the last few months educational activity has been started with 2000 Chinese trainers, who in the future will be able to teach the art of ice-cream making to tens of thousands of ice-cream makers in the Far East.
