Main Activity
SpiderBiotech is a biotechnology start-up company engaged in the discovery and development of therapeutic multimeric peptides and peptidomimetics in the fields of bacterial infections and the life-threatening conditions related (sepsis).
SpiderBiotech holds an exclusive worldwide license from the University of Siena to develop novel tetrabranched peptides that showed to be potent, protease-stable antimicrobial agents with in vitro and in vivo activity against bacteria known to cause nosocomial Gram-negative infections. Due to their mechanism of action, these synthetic molecules are expected to overcome the urgent problem of bacterial resistance to conventional antibiotics.
SpiderBiotech is committed to the discovery and of novel bioactive peptides that improve people's health and the survival of patients. The Company is based at the Bioindustry Park Canavese (Turin) and has collaborations with companies and other institutions throughout Europe

Company Strengths
HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS: The drug candidates of the company, SB006 and it derivatives, are tetrabranched peptides isolated by phage-display selection that showed to be potent, protease-stable antimicrobial agents with in vitro and in vivo activity against bacteria of clinical importance from species of: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter spp. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including clinical isolates showing a multi-drug resistant phenotype.
The in vitro and in vivo efficiency of multimeric peptides is generally ascribed to their multimeric nature, which enables polyvalent interactions. In medical sciences, multimeric peptides are useful tools in several applications as an antibody mimics, drug transport vectors, anticancer agents and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast reagents. The synthesis of bioactive peptides in multimeric form can result in increased half-life due to acquired resistance to protease and peptidase activity. Moreover they can bind their targets with increased affinity due to multivalency effects.
EXPERTISE: Expertise in Phage Display and multimeric and linear peptide synthesis, for successful and efficient discovery, analysis and optimisation of therapeutic dendrimeric peptides selected against several targets.
