ECO-SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY IN ST RUBINETTERIE’S WATER-SAVING TAP

ECO-SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY IN ST RUBINETTERIE’S WATER-SAVING TAP

Shark is the new collection of electronic taps and fittings from ST Rubinetterie, designed by the architect Simone Micheli. Thanks to the combined use of two different types of electronic technology, Shark permits a more sustainable use of resources, thus reducing the waste of water and energy. If you put your hand or your toothbrush near the mouth of the tap, a sensor automatically activates the water jet, cutting it off when it is no longer needed. An ā€œintelligentā€ system regulates the water flow and temperature according to the situation. In fact, a light touch on the keyboard is enough to control the water flow and temperature, and thanks to LED backlighting, a glowing figure indicates the chosen temperature. The automatic supply function can also be disconnected to permit continuous flow. The models designed for showers and baths are equipped with a thermostatic version for maximum convenience. A series of pre-set temperatures allows you to quickly choose the one you prefer, or you can regulate the system yourself until you achieve the perfect temperature. A built-in safety device limits the maximum temperature to avoid scalding.

Concerns for health and the environment were not neglected either when it came to manufacturing the product. For example, brass with a low lead content was used and recycled or easily recyclable materials went into the packaging. In addition, the reduction in the number of times the boiler has to ignite translates into financial savings, a reduction of pollutants into the atmosphere, and an extension to the life of the boiler itself. Simone Micheli explained his objectives: ā€œShark, with its particular technology and evolutionary design, is principally intended to have an impact in the contexts of sustainability, eco-compatibility, and its scrupulous attention to safeguard one of our world’s most precious resources: water.ā€

St Rubinetterie is well-known for manufacturing products with highly acclaimed technological design. The company is one of few keeping all its production in-house, carefully vetting the selection and quality of its suppliers, and choosing very high quality raw materials, like those with low lead or nickel content for the chrome finish. This is a manufacturing company well prepared to confront the most exacting standards of foreign markets, with technical feasibility studies for its designs. The company was launched in 1998 as a project by the family business Fratelli Saglio Trombone Srl, which had been active in the production of metallic parts since 1969. The firm decided to reinvest its wealth of experience and technological expertise into the area of taps and fittings, and ST Rubinetterie chose to focus on the production of new, high-value collections specifically for bathroom use, with the aim of creating a recognisable Italian brand. Since 2006, the company has lent its support to the POLI Design-Consortium of Milan Polytechnic, with the aim of encouraging architects and designers to develop new visions of bathroom design. This business culture is recognised by the Association for Industrial Design, which has included ST Rubinetterie amongst its associates sinc
