HIGH FASHION TO DREAM ABOUT IN ROSY GARBO’S WEDDING DRESSES

There is something magical and strangely nostalgic in wedding and evening dresses, the meaning and essence of those often unique events which punctuate the lives of us all. Rosy Garbo realized this thirty years ago, when she decided to become a high fashion designer, pursuing her dream with hope, patience and determination.
Her label is nowadays one of the most famous Italian brands in the ready-to-wear market. Even if the gamble she took seems to have paid off, this naturally elegant lady, still full of vitality, does not seem to want to content herself with her achievements. She continues her occasional research efforts using new forms and materials which she has captured in her mind during her travels and which thanks to an enviable visual memory she can recall and then make use of in her designs.
“Mine was a choice which went against the grain, I knew that nobody in my family would understand the sense of it, and yet with time I came to realize that this is how it happens in the fashion world, where what seems to be a mistake can sometimes turn into something really special”. This is what she told us during an interview, during which we also asked her what would lead someone to choose an evening dress made by her company, and also what her future plans might be.
What is the added value of a garment created by Rosy Garbo?
“The added value consists in following the whole process of workmanship yourself. Showing your presence, and in particular your physical presence, is important; above all if this is supported by a close working relationship with your family, the only form of collaboration that can offer real, concrete and meaningful support. Last, but not least there is the research into materials and styles, which is part of my history as a person and which I nurture with my constant travelling, especially with my trips to Manhattan, where my son has lived for many years. The contact with a multi-ethnic society over there allows me to create new ideas and revives my desire to mix things together”.
Is there a particularly special overseas market for your company?
“We have always operated very well on the Greek market, where we have tried to do a good job by being careful to establish direct relationships with the businesses we have come into contact with over the course of time”.
Which country could represent a challenge for the future?
“We are very interested in Germany, which has a lively and expanding fashion market. In general, however, the important thing is to maintain intact the intrinsic nature of the company, which means not allowing it to become a very big concern, but always deliberately keeping it under the protective wings of myself and my family”.
Does the wedding dress identify the Rosy Garbo label in some way?
“It identifies it, but because it is connected to the event itself: the philosophy of the Rosy Garbo label is to connect the specialness to the moment of the ceremony itself”.
And what does the future hold for the company?
“In the immediate future, we are going to concentrate particularly on Italy, where we are thinking of opening some Rosy Garbo shops, either single label or as franchises, in the Milan area and in Sicily”.
