ITALIAN INTERIORS FOR AIRCRAFT: DESIGN AND COMFORT AT HIGH ALTITUDE

Rome (Ign) - apparently a niche sector, but one that for years has also been driving many subsectors towards a position of world leadership. This is the case of the production of aircraft interiors, in which some Italian businesses lead the world market thanks to quality, style and design. Among the leading Italian names in this field is Geven Srl (www.geven.com), which can boast orders in Europe, the United States and Asia, and produces complete furnishing systems, seats and interiors for aircraft and ships. It is the world's leading producer of passenger chairs for fast ferries and a major name in interior furnishing for aircraft. Geven's success is based above all on the care dedicated to the choice of materials (Italian fabrics for upholstery and quality leathers), combined with an extreme attention to research and development, with the aim of developing increasingly effective solutions in quality and technical terms. An example is "Infinity", a series of seats for economy class with a structure completely in aluminium, computer installed in the armrest and TV monitor on the seat back. Another example is "Galley", an easily assembled bar unit, fitted with all the comforts necessary in an aircraft: special containers for hot and cold liquids, automatic control panel, illuminated worktop and the possibility to personalise the seat on the basis of customer needs.
Another major Italian company in the sector, Avio Interiors (www.aviointeriors.it), also exploits personalisation, designing its products on the basis of the customer's needs. The company has prepared differentiated lines of products adapted to all types of travel, always ensuring maximum personalisation and at the same time simple integration on board the aircraft. The philosophy of Avio Interiors has been christened ACA (Adaptive comfort Approach) and essentially means an operational line of work which builds the product on the basis of the passengers, so as to create a space which responds as far as possible to their every need. This approach has led to three production systems: Velvet Grove, which allows the seats to adapt to the passenger's body as much as 95%; LoveLeave, a system which facilitates access; and Rounded Pod, a special shell for chairs designed for business class. These three details and the care given to the entire production process have allowed the company to create an innovative product portfolio based on quality. "Perseus", for example, is a chair with an avant-garde design, fitted with automatic controls for height adjustment and to variable inclination, with a TV in the seat back, and personal reading light. The "Cassiopea" model includes an electrically controllable back support which makes it possible to optimise the passenger's position by helping maintain a correct posture, also thanks to a personal sliding table and seat-integrated telephone.
