BAROLO, BARABARESCO, NEBBIOLO THE TREASURES OF PIEDMONT HEAD FOR CHINA
A good glass of red wine or white, at lunch, as an aperitif or at dinner: a habit that is widespread in Italy thanks to the excellent quality of grapes that create some of the best wines in the world. For some time now, Italian producers have been engaged in conquest of the Chinese market, a market with great potential, and so "Top Wine China" from May 24th to 26th in Beijing will be an occasion not to be missed.
A group of eight companies selected and coordinated by the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE) will participate in the event under a convention between ICE and the Piedmont Region, which explains why the major protagonists will be wines from this region. They constitute a kind of "eighth wonder of the world”, a sort of casket containing 15 DOCG and 46 DOC wines, precious treasures from the vineyards of the Langhe, a historic region of Piedmont located between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. Top Wine China will welcome a host of bottles of Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera and the distinctive Nebbiolo with its fruity aroma, hints of dried flowers and alcoholic strength.
If the latter is characterised by a good balance between colour, acidity and body, an expert sommelier can also accompany exhibition visitors in tasting Roero, the DOCG wine that takes its name from the territory in which it is produced, the area of Roero in the province of Cuneo. Finally, the wines of Monferrato, from the “anarchical” Grignolino, a light red that is not a rosé, to Freisa with its great character that goes well with salami, pasta with meat sauce and mixed grills. To end on a high note, there will be an excellent Malvasia di Casorzo, an ideal complement to any dessert, fragrant and bubbly with a low alcohol content.
Top Wine China, a major event that celebrates its second edition this year, will serve as an important springboard to become known in a market as vast as China: the Italian producers will start from the excellent results already achieved in some regions in the north of the country at similar exhibitions, and extend outwards to other markets that are less well known but have enormous potential.
The Piedmont companies participating in the exhibition are not afraid of comparisons with other countries such as France, which will be showcasing their best products to create new business opportunities. The formula will be the traditional winning combination of quality, competence and courtesy. In fact, visitors to the Made in Italy stand will be welcomed with an excellent glass of wine and its "history" told by industry experts who will try to make them taste the hidden flavours (fruity, spicy, etc.) and listen to the story of a feeling and a passion that will last for many years. This synergy will create the foundations for "commercial" success, the real aim of Top Wine China 2011.
