EARTHMOVING MACHINERY: ITALY FOCUSES ON RUSSIA
Rome (Ign) - Italy will be one of the leading lights at the next edition of CTT (www.ctt-moscow.com), the largest show in Russia dedicated to the sector of machinery for earthmoving, roads and construction, scheduled to open on 12 June at the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre in Moscow. For five days, the world's leading firms in the sector will present their products to buyers from Russia and neighbouring countries, with the aim of achieving increasingly significant shares of a market in continuous growth, as testified also by the constant increase in the number of exhibitors present at the show, which, now in its eight edition, can count on over 400 exhibitors and a public of almost 20,000 visitors. Italy will be present with a collective delegation organised by the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE).
2006 was an exceptional year for the Italian industry of machinery for earthmoving, roads and construction. Production was up by 12.7%, achieving turnover of €3.7bn. And further growth of at least 5% per year is estimated for 2007 and 2008. According to figures published by the association Comamoter (www.comamoter.it), the sector has grown at a rate of six times the increase in GDP, with an extremely strong propensity towards exports (accounting for 66% of production). Exports have grown by 22.7%, for a total of €2.5bn, and prospects for coming years are extremely positive, with an estimate of further growth of 4.5% for 2007 and of 5.8% for 2008. The most important export markets are the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany. In this scenario, the Russian market shows extraordinary signs of vitality, with over 3000 machines more sold than in 2005, and growth of 75%. The domestic market also recorded good results with over 28,000 items sold (for a value €1.2 billion), representing growth of 9.4%.
As far as regards the individual product lines, traditional machinery (bulldozers, excavators, shovels and graders) have witnessed growth of 6.7%, while the rise continues for mini excavators (+9,3%), compact mini power shovels - (the so-called skid steer loaders) with growth of 13.5% -, and of telescopic hoists (+25%). Dumpers are also performing well (+17.6%). In terms of equipment, sales of demolition hammers have fallen by 6.3%, while machinery for road construction recorded growth of 6.6%. These are figures that show an industrial sector in great shape, that has managed to overcome the difficulties of 2005 to get back to the highest levels. Today, Italian businesses in the sector are in fact considered at the technological forefront on a world level, also thanks to the creation of centres such as the Laboratory for Innovation, set up by the sector's trade associations. This centre is specialised in applying to the mechanisation sector the most advanced technologies in the field of electronics, engineering and material chemistry, and is designing new accurate and silent machines, which can work without operators, remote controlled from a command station.
