NeED Pharmaceuticals is a new biotechnology Company focusing on the discovery and development of novel anti-infective drugs for the treatment of serious or neglected infectious diseases, where an large unmet medical need and market opportunity is clearly identified.
The increased spread of diseases such as AIDS, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and malaria, from underdeveloped to developing Countries, represents a serious ans still unmet medical need. Hospital infections due to multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains, such as MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus), Pseudomonas sp. and Acinetobacter sp. are becoming a growing health problem.
The Company has already a portfolio of intellectual property and know how, derived from its own research and acquisition efforts, and addressing the issue of MDR infections.NeED clinical candidates have competitive advantage over existing products, like improved potency and/or spectrum, activity against strains resistant to currently used drugs, reduced toxicity and/or convenience and ease of administration.
NeED people have an extensive and proven international experience in infectious diseases, spanning from discovery to marketing, solid and proven successful development and marketing track record of several innovative antiinfective drugs, and an extensive Academic and business network.NeED, through its partnership with NAICONS (New Anti-Infectives Consortium), has access to a large (65,000+ strains) library of producer organisms available to partners for the identification of novel drug leads from microbial sources.
An extract bank consisting of over 160,000 extracts prepared from these strains is also available. This library includes a substantial amount of biodiversity and can represent a valuable source for novel drug leads.
