FEP ME 640: THE ITALIAN WAY TOWARDS X-RAY SECURITY

Rome (Ign) - The most recent and effective evolution in the field of machines for checking hand baggage is Fep Me, produced by Gilardoni from Lecco, an essential security product, built according to EU regulations. Thanks to the wide range of models, it may be used both in airports and museums, and in any other situations where X-rays need to be performed to safeguard people and things. It is even able to identify the type of explosive contained in luggage, if there is any.
The main features of Fep Me are its image quality, connectivity, compatibility, and the ability to recognise explosives even when hidden inside chemical solutions that make their identification complex. In its design, Gilardoni has implemented a highly technological system which can analyse any container while maintaining the same size as a conventional device. The new X-ray system for checking hand luggage is at the top end of the market in terms of spatial resolution, bundle penetration and quality in the representation and processing of the digital image. The high contrast images, clear and of utmost quality, are viewed on extremely high resolution 17 or 19 inch LCD screens, thus minimising visual strain of the user. The traditional machines on the market only distinguish between organic materials - such as fabrics - and inorganic ones - such as metals. Fep Me can do much more, thanks to a software system which enables it to recognise and evaluate potentially dangerous objects, thus also avoiding unnecessary inconvenience and wasted time for the traveller. In fact, the neural software developed by Gilardoni in its research laboratories was conceived on the basis of the European E.D.S. (Explosive Detection System) specifications, while its connectivity features allow monitoring and remote checking. The product also allows the recognition of objects with a density greater than a user-preset threshold. Such great versatility makes it useful on every occasion.
Gilardoni is a company with solid roots. It was established in 1947 by Arturo Gilardoni, which set itself the aim and mission of realising a structure able to produce, distribute, sell and provide global assistance for innovative products, both in the field of security and in that of industrial and medical applications. The company operates in the fields of digital electronics, mechanics, software, radiation physics and ultrasound devices. Its headquarters are in Mandello del Lario, near Lecco in Lombardy, and it has a turnover of âŹ50m (25% on foreign markets) providing jobs for 240 people. Today, Gilardoni is able, in the market of products which implement X-ray technology, to control the entire process of production without having to outsource any functions: a characteristic which it has in common with multinationals in the sector such as General Electric, Philips and Siemens. Its products have attracted the attention of the US administration and Enac (the Italian civil aviation authority).
