GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY
CESTAS is a Non-Governmental Organization with full Italian Foreign Ministry recognition (as according to the law no.49 dated 26.02.87) as qualified in managing international co-operation projects in Developing Countries. CESTAS also has official authorization to handle projects financed by the European Union.
It is a no-profit-making, apolitical organization, which follows a policy of equal rights according to ethnic groups, gender, nationality and religion.The defence of Human Rights and universal solidarity provide the basis for the Association's aim to promote the knowledge, study and initiatives concerning the struggle against underdevelopment and hunger world-wide.


MAJOR PROJECTS
September 1997 - September 2000. Jointly funded by the European Union, in conjunction with: The Municipalities' Association and 5 Municipalities identified on a yearly basis, Employment Intermediary Centres for the Low-Income Women Householders Programme in Concepción and Santiago Provinces , Chile, The programme's objective is for the insertion of women householders into the employment world, with the intention, as a result, of improving job quality and stability and, as a result, quality of life.

3 years (start March 1999). Jointly funded by the European Union, in conjunction with: Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) - Republic of Namibia, Human Resources Development in the Orthopaedic Sector, Namibia, Improve the overall capacity, quality and efficiency of the Orthopaedic Technical Services in Namibia and the production of orthopaedic technical appliances.
- Increase the services to the Regions.
- Reduce the percentage of people with physical disabilities.
- Initiate a formal training programme for 30 Orthopaedic Technicians. Train necessary staff , on-the-job, through short and long term fellowships and apprenticeship scheme.
- Work out plans for establishing permanent service facilities in the northern regions (Oshakati and Rundu). Work out a plan for Mobile Units to serve the northern as well southern regions.
- Implement streamlining of workshop procedures. Up-grade working methods through instructions and training.
