ITALIAN COMPANIES PRESENTED IN MEXICO
The automotive industry, oil & gas and green technologies: these are the sectors of the outstanding Italian companies participating in the trade mission to Mexico organised by the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) .
From 31 March to 2 April 2014, entrepreneurs representing the best in terms of innovation, quality and technology in these industries will be in Mexico City to explore possibilities of collaboration with the Mexican market. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Development and Confindustria, the Italian General Confederation of Industry, are also involved in organising the mission, together with the Italian Trade Agency.
As a sign of its importance for these institutions and for the Italian government, the mission will be led by Carlo Calenda, the Deputy Minister for Economic Development.
The choice of sectors was certainly not made at random: Mexico is the fifth large global purchaser of components for the automotive industry, which in 2012 accounted for 18.5% of the country’s value-added manufacturing and provides employment for one million people.
It is a strategic sector for the country, as Mexico is the world’s fifth largest exporter of motor vehicles, with an export value greater than that of Brazil and India combined. It is therefore an important opportunity for Mexican companies, to see what Made-in-Italy has to offer in terms of the latest developments in the automotive industry, one of Italy’s most important manufacturing sectors, with a production range that includes motor vehicles, trailers, semi-trailers, and car and engine components.
Oil & Gas is another sector on which the mission will focus: with the liberalisation of this sector in Mexico, substantial investments are envisaged in deep-water exploration and the construction of energy transport networks.
The mission will present Italian producers of insulated wire, cables, stop cocks and valves, together with companies involved in the extraction of energy minerals.
The third sector is that of Green Technologies, as the Mexican government aims to generate 35% of the country’s energy from renewable sources by 2024.
The reduction of pollution is also a priority, together with water and waste treatment. Almost 3,500 companies work in this sector in Italy (2011 data), generating a turnover of almost EUR 35 billion and employing a workforce of approximately 87 thousand. The companies participating are involved in the production of anti-pollution equipment, and recovery and recycling.
The mission programme in Mexico City for 1 April features the Mexico-Italy Business Forum, which will be followed by industry workshops and, in the afternoon, B2B meetings between Italian and Mexican companies to explore new business opportunities for both sides.
Company visits are then scheduled for 2 April, organised according to various industries involved. In short, it will be a unique occasion to learn about the opportunities offered by the Mexican market and the potential of the Italian companies, as well as to develop and strengthen existing relationships.
