FROM ITALY: THE FIRST WRIST PERSONAL COMPUTER

FROM ITALY: THE FIRST WRIST PERSONAL COMPUTER Rome (Ign) - Its name is Zypad, an all-Italian IT revolution from Eurotech (http://www.eurotechonline.it/), set to invade the world. It is in fact the first ever wrist computer, designed with the aim of leaving the user/worker`s hands free, so that they can be connected to a network without having to rely on a fixed station. This is an absolute first, which makes the potential of internet and the computer boundless: and the new freedom of movement achieved could by definition revolutionise the very way in which computers are normally used.

Zypad is concentrated high technology: from its miniaturised circuits to its various advanced integrated hardware functions, everything in the product demonstrates the special attention that Eurotech has dedicated to research and development. Optimised energy consumption and an extreme attention to ergonomic needs are the secrets of this 290g technological jewel, which Eurotech presented to the market at the headquarters of the Italian Stock Exchange in June. Zypad is so versatile that it is equipped with flexible controls, making it possible to pass from touch screen to joystick operation according to user needs, and has been designed to be adaptable to a wide range of applications. A case in point is that of the emergency services, who may use the wrist computer to send and receive information to and from an incident scene. Of course, as the design is further developed, it will be possible to integrate data transmitted by robots sent ahead as scouts to reduce risks and, thanks to the implementation of special sensors, Zypad will also be able to warn its wearer about the presence of invisible dangers, such as toxic substances released during fires. The medical sector is also an excellent market for wrist computers, and Zypad is able to provide medical and paramedical staff with simplified access to databanks as well as read special electronic bracelets, which can be worn by patients and contain their medical records. It is basically a clever way to reduce the exchange of printed clinical files and limit the wrong reading of patient information, as well as to record all treatment performed and thus avoid superfluous or repeated therapy. Nor should we forget the product's decisive contribution to the sector of logistics, with simplified barcode reading and the processing of information directly on site, thus optimising the selection and warehousing times of goods to be packed.

Basically, this is a product which will allow a constant flow of information usable in all fields, including energy. The control room will be able to transmit information on all workers in real time, to permit a rapid response in the event of an emergency, and to record any variations in terms of radioactivity, in the case of nuclear power stations. It is no coincidence, then, that Eurotech has invested a great deal in this new computer, committing vast human and financial resources. While only being set up in 2001, the business has already reached one of the goals it had set itself from the beginning - that of offering products and services in the field of new technologies aimed to meet the needs of private individuals, professionals and the public and private sectors. In this light, Zypad seems to be the most important product launched on the market so far. This is without doubt an excellent passport to the world markets for a company which in only 6 years has managed to build a solid base on innovation, research and development.
