MY ANGEL CARE: THE CHILD SAFETY BRACELET
While it is worn as a regular bracelet, it holds inside a medical record of sorts that provides basic health information (for example, blood type), medication plan, allergies and food intolerances.
Its name is "My Angel Care" and it comes from the combination of technology and security needs. It is a silicone, water-resistant bracelet fitted with an internal NFC (Near Field Communication) tag, which allows reading all information - medical or otherwise - of a child or an adult using a smart phone or tablet.
The project aims to address potentially critical situations in an agile and secure manner, but also to facilitate the everyday life of parents and their children: Sending them to school or on a school trip without concerns. The bracelet allows reading data uploaded to a Cloud-based, Myangel database, including family contacts in case of need.
The startup was born aboard the Startup Bus Italy in 2013, the contest where European nations create new business projects, and was developed in just 72 hours.
This product is the first of its kind and has been designed for children. Needless to say, it can be extended to many other groups including the elderly and women. Dealing with children's physical integrity cannot ignore the protection of their right to privacy.
With this in mind, the creators of My Angel Care have implemented several security levels. For starters, the information uploaded to the Cloud is protected by an encrypted key. In addition, users can decide which data should be public (visible to anyone approaching an NFC-enabled smartphone) and which should be visible only to user-designated individuals. Even the data search interval can be chosen, from time to time, by the user.
This useful bracelet, produced in different colors and textures to make it "cool" and appealing to children, holds numerous services inside. First of all, the "direct call": If no NFC-enabled phone is available, you can still reach your family members through the toll free number and the identification code of the bracelet. The second service is the "self help": If there is no rescuer at hand, just bring your phone and your bracelet close together and a pre-recorded emergency call is automatically placed.
Finally, the "medication alarm", whereby the bracelet sends a reminder directly to your device so you take your medicine at the appointed time.
My Angel Care, which is poised to revolutionise the world of daily care for children, will be distributed in Italy from the summer of 2015 at a remarkably affordable price: just 29.90 €. Any bracelet buyer will be also provided with an ID card - to keep always at hand - so that any rescuer unfamiliar with My Angel can find the information required to access data via NFC.
