Italian Software for the Telephones of the Future

Rome - (Adnkronos Multimedia) - Mobile telephone, remote control and television, all in one. Its name is MDF, Multimedia Delivery Framework, and it bears the trademark of Atop Innovation Spa, the Roman research company which owns exclusive technologies in the mobile telephony field. This is a system with a wide range of functions which, thanks to the invention of a software for mobile telephones, personal computers and palmtops, makes it possible to use programs in real-time, by means of GPRS connections. It was presented last year at the Symbian Expo in London, the most important show in the sector of software for mobile telephony. By late October 2004 it was already available on the market, after Atop Innovation had completed the necessary agreements with mobile telephone companies and commercial partners. Symbian, an absolute leader in the sector of operating systems for the mobile telephone industry, is a consortium set up by the major producers of cellular devices, such as Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens, and Sony Ericsson, and holds 80% of the software applied by the leading retail houses in the world markets of mobile telephony. And Atop Innovation is rightly part of it.
The product, entirely made in Italy, is destined to revolutionise the services available on the market of mobile business and is able to make concrete and usable applications which up until now could only be imagined, above all in the field of audiovisual transmission and video control systems. To exploit all the potential of MDF, all that is required is a mobile phone of the latest generation, on which to install the new software. The phone can immediately be connected to the Internet and, just as you would with your television remote control, you can watch on the display any digital television programme, with only 3-4 seconds' delay.
The images appear clear, while the audio quality is high. This is perhaps the most important innovation compared to the other products at present on the market, because Atop Innovation has paid particular attention to the quality of images transmitted and to sound reception. It will thus be possible, at an average cost of € 20 per 90 minutes of connection, to watch live news, television programs and football matches, and even interact with the device: giving answers in a TV quiz or asking questions during a TV debate. These are only some of the possibilities offered by MDF.
Another innovation regards video surveillance systems. Again with your mobile telephone it is possible for example to turn on cameras installed inside a building and check, from your phone display, what is happening inside. In the event of an alarm you will receive a call on your mobile telephone. Video surveillance functions, together with developments in domotics, will make it possible to view places and persons remotely, such as the elderly and children, but also other places and offices, or to turn on air-conditioners, heating or any other electrical appliance.
This result obtained by Atop Innovation, is due to long and intense research work, developed in collaboration with the Bordoni Foundation and the Infocom Department of the Engineering Faculty at La Sapienza University in Rome. This first success, according to Giampietro Salpiani, managing director of Atop Innovation, "strengthens our intention to compete in the sector of mobile telephones and to increase our range of new wireless applications, by developing new systems to be engineered."
