ITALY SETS 2007-2008 FASHION TRENDS IN NEW YORK

The 2007 edition of the Première Vision Preview New York (www.premierevision-newyork.com), scheduled to take place in the American city on 18 and 19 July 2007 will have a restricted access. According to Première Vision International, the show is open to italian companies that meet the requirements (for both quality and products) for admission to Paris-based "Première Vision" and "Modamont" , showrooms organised by the same organization.
The 2007 clothing and accessories textiles fair - showcasing the fall/winter 2008-2009 pre-collections - will only be open to a total of 140 firms, distributed according to different styles: fancy seduction, tailored distinction, relaxed attitude, active pulsation and accessories.
Over two thirds of companies present will be Italian, for a total of around 50, hailing from the major textile producing districts: Prato, Como, Varese e Biella. The companies will be grouped in several sections, under the"I-TexStyle" brand, maintaining product diversification. Participation to the show will be coordinated by ICE, the Italian Trade Commission.
ICE will be present at the show with an information stand which will also serve as a reference point for participating companies seeking assistance, thanks to trade analysts and interpreters. To promote the Italian presence at the show, ICE will host several communication initiatives: from media relations management, to drawing up mailing lists of opinion leaders and designers, to ensuring news coverage by the specialised media.
The effort is motivated by the importance of Italian fashion exports: with USD 6 billion in exports, 2006 saw an increase of 2,6% compared to the previous year. Besides, Italian-made fashion confirms its vital role especially in sectors with high added value in terms of design and quality, such as eyewear (which registered a 36% increase in exports) and clocks (+10%). Positive figures also for traditional categories such as leather goods (+8%) and cosmetics (+6).
Despite the difficulties encountered by the textile and footwear industries in 2005, the export value of Italian-made clothing in the USA has remained relevant in 2006, with USD 1,5 billion sold. These are significant figures which reflect the consistently high quality of Italian products and which is still highly appreciated especially in the United States. Even in the footwear sector, despite the competition of low-wage countries (Cina and Brasil, who dominate the medium range in the American female footwear market), the value of Italian shoe imports remains noteworthy: USD 1,1 billion. Italy is the second footwear supplier to the United States after China.
The jewellery sector is also comprised within the broader fashion industry, although it "weighs" less than the textile-clothing and footwear sectors. Despite the slight dip experienced in 2006, Italy still exports products for a total value of USD 900 million. Its major competitors in this sector are India, China and Thailand.
