REVESTIR: AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE AT THE TOP

REVESTIR: AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE AT THE TOP Rome (Ign) -They represent one of the most important parts of the furnishings of a house, but only when produced with care and attention can they give added value to interior design. We're talking about tiles and the machines used for producing them, that will be on show at Revestir, (www.exporevestir.com.br), the international fair dedicated to ceramics and ceramics technology to be hosted in São Paulo in Brazil between 13 and 16 March 2007.
Aimed at producers, suppliers and retailers of tiles and ornamental stones, since 2003 the fair has replaced Feicon as the major event in the sector in South America. The March 2006 edition hosted around 150 exhibitors from Brazil, the United States, China, Spain and Italy, and attracted over 28,000 visitors. For this edition, the fifth that will be held in the Transamerica exhibition Centre in São Paulo, the organisers plan to increase the venue size, which should thus exceed 25,000 square metres. The exhibitors include Italy, with a collective delegation organised by the trade association in the sector Acimac (Association of Italian builders of machinery and equipment for ceramics) (www.acimac.it) and by the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE), which will include 15 companies. Thanks to a partnership agreement between Fiera di Rimini, Acimac, Anfacer (the Association of Brazilian tile producers) and the body hosting the fair, the section dedicated to machinery has been allowed to use the trademark Tecnargilla Brasil, which refers to the biennial event in Rimini, Italy, the most important show in the world for technology in the ceramics sector. Moreover, Acimac, Anfacer (the Association of Brazilian tile producers) and ICE will also organise a technological forum, in other words a day entirely dedicated to Italian ceramics technology, that Brazilian producers have already shown they appreciate.

But Italy is appreciated all over the world in this sector. The results for 2005 in the sector of ceramics machinery were extremely positive. The year ended with overall turnover of €1.8 billion, up 11.5% on 2004. Growth is due to increases on the domestic market (+2%), but above all to exports, which made a real leap forward from levels of €1.1 billion in 2004 to €1.3 billion the following year, an increase of 15.3%. The Italian producers of ceramics machinery export products accounting for 74.3% of overall turnover. Growth is due to a sharp increase in sales in Asia (+54.8%) and in Central-South America (+30%), but also to the European market, which continues to perform well recording an extremely positive increase of 17.9%. Dividing results by product, the sector of tile machinery remains dominant, accounting for almost 80% of overall turnover, followed by apparatus for brickwork (9.3%), bathroom fittings (5.2%) and kitchenware (3.3%). The manufacturing sector is composed of 156 companies, which are now medium and large in size thanks to mergers and unions of industries in the sector. There is an impressive production district between Modena and Reggio Emilia (Emilia Romagna), with 120 companies (including induced activity) providing 5000 jobs. 60% of companies producing machines for the ceramics industry are concentrated here, and around 50% of the workforce. The two main production centres are Imola and the district of Sassuolo-Scandiano, which account for around 90% of national production. Moreover, the significant presence of companies producing furnaces and systems for ceramics makes the area a significant centre for research and innovation in production processes, such as automated industrial production lines. These are used in advanced applications in the regional district of ceramics and tiles, of which Italy produces around a fifth of world production.
