ANUGA 2007: ITALY'S FOOD AND BEVARAGE INDUSTRIES FACE THE WORLD'S BEST IN COLOGNE

13th-17th October, Cologne, Germany. That's where Anuga 2007, the 53rd edition of what is expected to be the biggest international event for the food & beverage industry, will take place. Figures bear witness to its importance: the exhibition area will cover a 280,000 square metre surface, ready to welcome over 6,000 visitors from more than 100 nations. At the last fair in 2005 (the fair takes place every 2 years) there were 158,000 visitors. The organisers this year foresee similar attendance figures, at around 160,000.
As one of the most important trade fairs in the world for agro-industry producers and buyers, Anuga presents a great opportunity for Italian firms in this sector. Those firms participating in the event will have an official delegation organised by the Italian Trade Commission (ICE). About 300 firms will take part in it, mostly small and medium enterprises, from all over the country. The Italian presence will be organised in five sections, each dedicated to a different area of agro-industry: wines and beverages, dairy products, oven-baked food, prepared meats and miscellaneous products. The aim is to consolidate Italy's position in as mature a market as the European one, and Germany's in particular.
Germany in fact is the main recipient of Italian food & wine exports: in 2006 it received 3.8 billion euros worth of goods (+1.3% year-on-year), which accounted for 20.7% of all Italian exports in this sector. According to the latest data available, in the first four months of 2007 the positive trend has continued, as wines, fruit and vegetables and confectionery products were particularly successful. In 2006 Italy's agro-industry exports grew by 6.4% compared to 2005, up to 18.9 billion euros. Two-thirds of them, worth 12.2 billion euros, were sold on EU markets.
During the fair several events are planned, including special shows on organic food, innovation in the frozen food sector, catering services, and wholesale marketing techniques for wine merchants and alcoholic drinks dealers.
