ITALIAN-MADE SMART ELECTRICAL NETWORKS
Energy savings of 45% on urban electrical consumption using normal lamp posts, electricity lines that become remote monitoring systems, telecom and Wi-Fi networks, environmental alarms and dynamic signage.
These are the smart electrical networks produced by the Romagna-based company Umpi with its patented Minos System .
It consists of ‚Äúsmart‚ÄĚ lighting systems capable of knowing when and where to illuminate and with what intensity, depending on sunlight conditions.
Its operation is guaranteed by the particular use of the waves conveyed, thanks to which it is possible to: continually monitor a system’s status, even remotely; be aware, in real time, of any possible faults and intervene promptly (maintenance costs for these systems guarantee savings of 30%); decide the flow of energy and lighting to be supplied.
Last but not least it is possible to supply additional services such as urban Wi-Fi, video surveillance, advertising and services to an area. For example, these streetlights can monitor and provide information about traffic as well as functioning as charging systems for electric vehicles. What is more lamp posts can provide consumers and the operating company, with information about the weather, even through SMS messages.
This system is compatible with any type of existing lighting system and can transform it into a veritable territorial communications network, without the need for any additional cabling.
The system operates thanks to a series of intercommunicating elements. Syra acts as the remote control system for each individual light and, in addition to providing information about its operation, can adjust its luminous flux.
The pieces of information are then processed and managed by the remote control centre and the surveillance server.
Everything operates thanks to the MinosX software that displays events and any system anomalies and creates automatic stats. It is state-of-the-art technology transforming lighting systems into veritable communication and territorial monitoring networks.
The Minos System was invented by Umpi, an electrical company established in 1982 in Cattolica (Rimini) that initially focussed on energy saving and which is now transforming itself increasingly at the heart of a group of 6 technological SMEs that are working on solutions for smart cities and building automations and it is planning to launch itself on the stock market.
The Group‚Äôs exports now account for half its turnover (around €15 million a year); it employs around ninety people and focuses heavily on research and development.
