MACHINES FOR METALLURGY: ITALIAN PRODUCTS ON SHOW IN NEW DELHI

Roma (Ign) - Machinery for metallurgy produced by the world's leading quality businesses will be the protagonists of Ifex 2007, (www.ifexindia.com), a fair dedicated to foundry machinery to be held between 2 and 4 February in New Delhi, in India. Ifex is one of the most important international events in the sector, thanks to the 6200 square metres dedicated to the show and to the presence of 129 exhibitors. In the prestigious scenario of the Jaypee Palace Hotel & Convention Center in Agra, 250 km from New Delhi, professionals and companies in the sector are ready to fight for the attention of 6000 visitors. And the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE), which is organising a collective delegation of Italian businesses in collaboration with the trade association Amafond (www.amafond.com), is focussing on the importance of this showcase to help Italian companies increase their business by reaching out to foreign marketplaces and professionals.
The Italy system can boast a solid sector, which is experiencing a period of growth. The figures for 2005 are in fact encouraging, with turnover up by 2%, reaching €1.3bn. This success was made possible above all by the foreign market (final destination of 65% of production): turnover from exports in fact rose by 114%, resulting in a figure of around €26m. Europe (65%), China, Japan, Korea (13% each) and North America (10%) are competing for the position of Italy's leading trading partner, even if India was a major importer, purchasing 12.8% of the foundry machinery produced for foreign markets. This made Italy the second most important supplier of India.
Also the data distributed over a number of years demonstrate the growth of the sector: according to the Italian National Statistics Institute (Istat), between 2000 and 2005 the value of Italian exports to China increased by 410%, rising from €28m to €143m. So much so that the quota of metallurgy machinery out of the total of products exported to China stabilised at 3.1%. These figures show strong growth, due both to the attention that Italian businesses have always dedicated to the technological details of the product, and to the greater investments made in the sector. It is also for these reasons that in recent years there has been an increasingly marked increase in orders and the size of the sector itself (annual growth is currently 6%, but according to some estimates could reach 10% in a few years).
The international reputation of Italian products is thus based on science and technology, and this is shown by the fact that in the markets of some specific types of products Italy enjoys a position of undisputed leadership. A case in point is machinery for pressure die-casting (a specific type of solidification of the cast under pressure), which are chosen by metallurgical companies who give priority to considerations of safety and technology. But other products which stand out as examples of success stories are those (such as shot-blasting machines, burring machines and spectrometers) whose quality is defined by their degree of technology and innovation: this is all down to a system which, thanks to the constant work of its 7000 employees, is always able to reinvent itself, both on the basis of the requests and forces of global trade, and also by constantly developing new solutions to improve the quality of the entire production process.
