ICT: ITALIAN TELECOMMUNICATIONS DISEMBARK IN MOSCOW

Rome (Ign) - The Information & Communications technology sector, as every year, will be the main feature at the Sviaz/expo comm 2007 (http://www.expocomm. com/moscow), the international exhibition for the division, which will be held in Moscow from 14th to 18th May 2007 and that, also for this edition, will prove to be one of the most important events on the European scene. Last year, Sviaz Expo saw 810 exhibitors take part, 604 of whom came from Russia and the Baltic States and 206 from 10 countries: Germany, the USA, Korea, Spain, France, Canada, Taiwan, Finland, China and, naturally, Italy, with a collective presence organised by the National Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE), whose main aim is to support the promotion of the Italian system abroad.
According to recent research published by EITO (European Information Technology Observatory), the total turnover in the IT industry in 2006 was € 70 billion in Italy, with a 2% growth rate compared to the previous year, and, according to recently published forecasts, further growth is estimated for 2007, which will bring the division up to a turnover of € 72 billion. Most of this result is due to telecommunications, in net growth, which in 2005 recorded € 36 billion turnover (+ 4.3% compared to the previous year), reaching a share of € 38 billion in 2006, which made it possible to invest growing resources in research and technological experimentation, particularly in the convergence towards digital platforms and naturally the new opportunities offered by the web. The Italian companies of the ICT have in fact taken on a leading position internationally for promoting services with innovative technological content.
The new challenges of the global market are continuously moving towards the hybridisation of new technologies in the telecommunications industry. An example of this is the case of the VOIP (Voice Over IP) protocol (technology that makes it possible to have a telephone conversation using an internet connection and the IP protocol, rather than passing through the traditional phone network), which after the rapid growth in the residential markets, has now seen further developments thanks to business interest as companies are increasingly deciding to make use of the new technology to reduce management costs. Recent research carried out by the Bocconi University, in fact, showed that the new telephone protocol has convinced 16.8% of companies with more than 10 members of staff, 50% of whom have shown their intention to completely abandon the traditional telephone line.
The web network is continuously becoming the place where companies in the industry are evaluated and this spirit and the prospect of installing new and promising commercial relationships with the Russian market, one of the most promising in the world, are behind the participation of the most important companies in the industry who will be meeting up in Moscow.
