VIDEOCOMMUNICATIONS IN THE WORLD SPEAK ITALIAN THANKS TO AETHRA
Italian video communication systems are sold in 65 countries all over the world. This is the achievement of Aethra (www.aethra.it/ worldwide), an Italian firm from Ancona that is the undisputed leader on the domestic market and is the supplier of 40 telecommunications companies on the global scene. Aethra is the leading videocommunications company in the EU and was the first in the world to offer a videophone to the public. Its presence extends to America and Asia thanks to a network of select partners, distributors and resellers, as well as through its own office branches in Milan, Rome, Madrid, London, Beijing and Shanghai, and its affiliates: Aethra Inc. in Miami, Aethra Mexico in Mexico City, Aethra Ameris in Sao Paulo and Aethra Technology in Shenzen, China. About 40% to 45% of the company's revenues come from abroad.
Founded in the 70s with the aim of establishing one of the world's leading firms in the telecommunications sector, Aethra was one of the first operators to adopt digital technology and to produce, in the 80s, ISDN equipment, network termination units and video-conferencing systems. "The projects launched in the last few years have delivered significant results", claims Giulio Viezzoli, founder and President of Aethra. "In the last fiscal year our turnover reached 84 million euros, one of the highest figures in our history. It is a particularly important result, as we reached it on our 35th anniversary. We also established a commanding position on the international markets with our two main lines of business: telecommunications and video-communications", boasts Mr Viezzoli.
Aethra's range of products include video communication audio conference solutions (desktops, videophones, set tops, rollabouts) as well as systems tailored specifically for vertical communications (telemedicine, distance learning and training, telebanking, video surveillance). The company also offers products for ISDN, ATM and XDSL (ADSL, SHDSL, SDSL, VDSL), network terminators, modem routers, frame relay terminators and equipment for telecommunications networks. Furthermore, it provides services for multi-audio conferencing, multi-video-conferencing and video streaming.
Aethra's excellence - a successful example of Italian entrepreneurship - is based on several factors. The experience gained over thirty years is certainly an added value, yet it is the extent and flexibility of its product range that makes Aethra's video-communications systems so unique and which allow it to create complete networks for professional communications. Aesthetics plays its part too: Aethra's care for design and ergonomics has always given it an edge over the competition.
Given that the distinguishing feature of its products is their technological content, Aethra's efforts in the field of R&D deserve a special mention. The company reinvests on average 10-12% of its yearly turnover back into developing new solutions and in the improvement of existing technology. Human resources devoted to R&D are also significant: the company employs 140 specialised technicians over a total of 320. Furthermore, by participating in international research committees and agencies, the company ensures that its products are continuously updated and fully interoperable.
