DIS, THE ITALIAN SHOE INNOVATES ITSELF THANKS TO A 3D CONFIGURATOR
he craftsmanship of Italian artisans, combined with the technology of a 3D configurator and the possibilities of expanding the market offered by e-commerce. This is the intuition of three young people, namely Andrea Carpinetti, a researcher in the Department of Management at the Polytechnic University of the Marches, Francesco Carpinetti, who has been working in the field of luxury shoes for many years, and Michele Luconi, an expert in new technologies and start-ups. Their company is called DIS - Design Italian Shoes and it is based in Recanati in the Marches. Although still a new company, it has already received many accolades and has attracted the interest of several investors.
The basic idea is relatively simple: DIS is basically an e-commerce site selling men's shoes. The particular feature of the site is that the customer becomes the designer of the shoe. Using the 3D configurator, that is available, it is possible to choose from nine different models of classic footwear for men, to customise every part of the shoe, to select the material from which it will be made, the colour, the eyelets, the laces, the lining and even the type of sole. This allows a customer to create more than five million different combinations. Once the configuration is complete and the order is placed, the work to create the shoe begins, overseen by master craftsmen who work in the footwear district of the Marches. Within four weeks, the customer will receive a pair of new shoes delivered to his door, anywhere in the world, with no shipping costs, no duties and for a fixed price of €249.00.
The company's three founders are perfectly clear about who their potential targets are: business men, honeymooners and dandies, all of whom can play with materials and colours to create a totally unique shoe. It's no coincidence, therefore, that the company's motto is "Be Different, Be Yourself".
Originally created as an e-commerce site, the company’s objective is to go beyond the world of the Internet, where DIS took its first steps, and to make the product available in stores selling men's clothing and formal wear, as well as selected tailors. This will make it even easier to expand into new markets, especially in Great Britain and the United States, which are the areas of greatest interest to the company. Design Italian Shoes intends not only to expand into new markets, but also to widen its range to include new products. They are examining the possibility of selling clothing accessories for men and, further down the line, a range of women's shoes.
